1983 Fender USA Standard Telecaster in Blonde/Ivory

Here we have a 1983 Fender Telecaster (Neck stamp indicates Nov. 1983).

This particular model was made in the Fullerton factory, before CBS sold Fender in 1985. Only made in 1983-84, there aren’t very many of these around. One of CBS’s last desperate efforts to get sales back on track.

Most famously used by Jeff Buckley, this guitar is surely a hidden gem.

Just like Buckley’s, this one is in Blonde/Ivory and is a Top Loader (also like Jimmy Page’s Tele). Top Loaders are said to give a slinkier feel to the string tension, as opposed to the normal string-through construction, and are very popular for how easily they play.

Another reason why this guitar is so great is the fact that it has Medium Jumbo frets and a 12” fretboard radius, giving you Gibson-like playability with Fender tones. We can really see why Jeff liked his.

Just slap a mirror pickguard on and add a Seymour Duncan Hot Lead Stack in the bridge and it’ll be just like Jeff’s.

【Specs and condition】

This guitar shows signs of honest wear, as is to be expected of something it’s age.

Everything looks to be original and there are no particular issues or repairs.

【Personal Impressions】

The Holy Grail for Jeff Buckley fans and definitely a great and affordable option for Led Zeppelin fans as well. The white pickguard gives us Robben Ford vibes too (minus the Rosewood board). This guitar is probably one of the few things that CBS got right and is a sleeper that people are gradually waking up to (and rightfully so!)

A great Tele for Gibson players looking to get into the Fender-side of things.
